Sea bream is a very versatile fish with firm tasty fillets that can be fried, baked, grilled or steamed.  You can find the fish whole on our counter, depending on your preferred sea bream recipes or cooking method  just ask and we can remove the scales and fillet it for you.

About Sea Bream

Sea bream are a group of compact, medium-sized fish known as Sparidae. Much of the sea bream sold in the UK comes from Mediterranean farmed gilthead bream (Sparus aurata). Gilthead bream are named after the little gold bar on their forehead.  These fish are also known as Royal or Silver Bream. According to Greek mythology, Gilthead Bream was considered sacred to Aphrodite – the goddess of love and beauty. A superb looking fish with bright silvery skin with hints of pink and gold With a its metallic sheen and chunky profile, the Gilthead Bream makes good eating.

You will also see Black bream on our counter, a larger wild caught fish. They are a warmer water species and found mainly around the south and west coasts of the UK and the Mediterranean. During the breeding season, the males change colour, becoming much darker with vertical white bars.

The firm  flesh work really well with a large number of ingredients from orange and dill to oriental spices in a teriyaki sauce, or plain with potatoes and a slice of lemon.
